It’s surprisingly simple to whip up a batch of lip balm or tinted gloss that’s perfectly customized to you taste. This homemade lip balm is a tried and true, all-natural recipe that leaves lips healthy and soft.

1 tablespoon of beeswax

2 teaspoons of honey

Optional: A chunk of lipstick for color (use a lipstick that’s almost gone).

Optional: About 15 drops of either peppermint or spearmint essential oil (for added zinc)

A container: You can use either an old Altoids mint tin or an old tube of lipstick. Any small container with a top will do.

Place your double boiler or saucepan over low heat. Add the oil, beeswax, and honey and let it sit just until the beeswax melts.

Remove the pan from heat and add the drops of essential oil and the chunk of lipstick (this step is optional).

Whisk the ingredients together (a fork will work if you don’t have a whisk) for 45 seconds or until the mixture seems completely ready. The consistency should be like a thick frosting.

Pour the mixture into its container, cap it and let it sit for a couple hours.
